Dear Representative ....

I am the parent of (child's name), my son/daughter with (describe disability) who attends (name school district).  His/her whose schooling was profoundly impacted by COVID (example?). I am writing to urge you to support HB 2674.

You - and every other lawmaker in Pennsylvania - voted to pass Act 66 last year, promising that it would "ensure that the present generation of school-age children do not lose educational opportunities due to COVID-19".  While every other student in your district had the potential to benefit from the extra year of schooling, Act 66 has completely left my son/daughter behind.  Because of his/her disabilities, we expect that he/she would stay in school until he/she ages out at 21. Act 66 does not allow him/her to stay in school until she turns 22, and so there no way he/she can get the extra school needed, schooling that you promised when you signed Act 66.

Act 66 has effectively discriminated against my son/daughter because of his/her disability.  Every parent of a non-disabled child spent just 5 minutes completing a one page form to get an extra year of school.  My only chance to recoup any schooling lost to COVID is to spend dozens of hours filing paperwork and meeting with my school district, and even then I would get a month of schooling, if any.  This is simply not fair!

So please support House Bill 2674, sponsored by Representatives Ortitay, Shusterman, and Hennesey. And you should not hesitate to support any amendments that might extend this same benefit to those graduating next year - they too have little chance of recouping progress lost to COVID before they are no longer eligible for public school.

You and every other lawmaker showed true compassion for our children when you passed Act 66 last year - please make sure that our most vulnerable youths are not left behind.   House Bill 2674 can begin to do that.

So please support Senate Bill 1276, sponsored by Senators Aument, Martin, Mensch, Corman, Scavello, and Baker. It proposes to extend the benefits of Act 66 to those with disabilities who would otherwise age of of public school this year and for several subsequent classes, each of whom has little chance of recouping progress lost to COVID. Four of these Senators also sponsored Act 66 - their decision to support this extension shows that they recognize the need to do more. Dear Representative ....

I am one of your constituents who is very concerned that COVID has had a profound impact on the schooling of youths with more significant disabilities. (consider adding information about your role /experience as a teacher, advocate, etc). I am writing to urge you to support HB 2674.

You - and every other lawmaker in Pennsylvania - voted to pass Act 66 last year, promising that it would "ensure that the present generation of school-age children do not lose educational opportunities due to COVID-19".  While every other student in your district had the potential to benefit from the extra year of schooling, Act 66 has completely left youths with significant disabilities behind.  Because of their disabilities, these youths would typically stay in school until they age out at 21. Act 66 does not allow these youths to stay in school until they turns 22, and so there no way they  can get the extra school needed, schooling that you promised when you signed Act 66.

Act 66 has effectively discriminated against my these youths because of their disabilities.  Every parent of a non-disabled child spent just 5 minutes completing a one page form to get an extra year of school.  To have any chance of recouping any schooling lost to COVID, parents of youths with disabilities had to spend dozens of hours filing paperwork and meeting with their school district, and even then would rarely get more than a month of schooling.  This is simply not fair!
